Location-Aware Land Parcel & Economic Survey System

Overview

Developed and customized a digital census platform for land parcel and economic activity mapping across African regions. The platform replaced paper-based field operations with a location-aware survey system integrated with ERPNext, enabling survey management, geospatial data handling, and GPS-based field data collection.

The Problem

Traditional field surveys relied heavily on paper-based processes, making data collection, task assignment, and location tracking difficult to manage. The project aimed to digitize the survey workflow by combining ERPNext with GIS technologies, allowing field agents to complete surveys at precise geographic locations while centralizing survey management.

The Challenge

This project introduced me to GIS and geospatial technologies for the first time. Understanding GeoServer, geospatial datasets, coordinate systems, and map services required significant research before implementation. In addition, the ERPNext customization was considerably more complex than previous projects because it needed to integrate multiple systems while maintaining a smooth workflow for field agents.

My Approach

  • Researched GIS concepts, GeoServer, and geospatial data management before implementation.
  • Cleaned and validated GIS datasets by correcting field names and resolving data inconsistencies.
  • Configured GeoServer using Docker to serve geospatial data efficiently.
  • Set up a dedicated SIGICI database server for large-scale geographic data storage.
  • Customized ERPNext workflows for survey management and field operations.
  • Worked across both frontend and backend to integrate mapping services with ERPNext.
  • Designed dashboards and reports to help administrators monitor survey progress.
